About Us

Founding Artistic Director (2013–2022)

H. Lee Gable has worked in the Washington theatre community for over twenty-four years. He has worked administratively for the Kennedy Center, Washington Shakespeare Company, Shakespeare Theatre Company, Studio Theatre, and the Helen Hayes Awards. Artistically, he was the founding artistic director for Phoenix Theatre (1996-2000) and the resident assistant director/producer for Washington Shakespeare Company (2004-2006). He also served as Managing Director for Washington Shakespeare Company for the 2006-2007season. He directed The Night of the Iguana, The Children’s Hour, and Private Lives for Washington Shakespeare Company; Inside/Out, The White House Murder Case, and 3 by Sylvia for Phoenix Theatre; God of Hell for Didactic Theatre; and Ballycastle for the Source Theatre Festival.

Founding Managing Director (2013–2019)

Michael Kelley has worked in the Washington theatre community for twenty years. He has worked administratively for the Kennedy Center, the Cultural Alliance of Greater Washington, DC Arts Center and as a nominator for the Helen Hayes Awards.

Interim Artistic Director

Christopher Janson has directed several readings for Rainbow Theatre Project and two productions, Top and Bottom and Blue Camp. He also performed in In the Closet for RTP. Chris was a founding member of Catalyst Theater Company and directed Catalyst's critically acclaimed productions of No Exit, Endgame, and The Altruists. He has also performed at Studio Theatre, The Shakespeare Theatre, Washington Shakespeare Company, Source Theatre, Actor's Theatre of Washington, Olney Theatre's National Players and at the Smithsonian Institution. In addition to these acting credits, he has written and produced several plays for the Smithsonian Institution and The Buffalo Bill Historical Center in Cody, Wyoming. Chris has a B.A. in Drama from Thomas More University in Crestview Hills, Kentucky and an M.A. in Theatre History and Literature from the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC.

Resident Dramaturg

Tess Huth, a.k.a. T.P. Huth (she/her), is a trans woman director, dramaturg, and playwright in the greater DC area. Directing: Des(s)ert Island at the End of the World (Rorschach Theatre, Klecksography), The Peacock Lady (Maryland Ensemble Theatre, METLab), Proxy (Rapid Lemon Productions), Variations on Myth (Rapid Lemon Productions). Dramaturgy: Variations on Change (Rapid Lemon Productions), Blue Camp (Rainbow Theatre Project), Olney Theatre Center’s 2017-2018 season. Playwriting: The Songs My Grandmother Sings (Maryland Ensemble Theatre, METLab), Sleeping Beauty: A Children’s Opera and Cinderella: A Children’s Opera (Opera in a Can, co-written with Grace Kane), Going Up? (Green Globe Theatre). Tess’ work can also be found on Moon Harbor Heroes, an actual play and narrative podcast about teenage superheroes.

Staff

  • Deborah Gur, Production/Stage Manager, produced Rainbow Theatre Project's No Word In Guyanese For Me, Top And Bottom, In The Closet, Clothes For A Summer Hotel, and Stonewall 50. In her free time, you can find her running around Studio Theatre as an Overhire or in the libraries of UMD working on her Master's.
